This volunteering activity is called Baduki. We volunteered at an abandoned dog shelter throughout the entire second semester. Our main tasks were cleaning each dog’s cage and, after having lunch on the school bus we came in, taking all the dogs for walks.
Most of the time, the students that were taller or stronger walked the big dogs and others took smaller ones, and some even took two dogs at once. One interesting thing I realized was that every dog has its own routine and feels satisfied when doing what it likes. For instance, a dog named kelsy is very dependent on her sibling Cherry, so whenever she has to go for a walk we always go with Cherry.
The dogs’ cage was quite stuffy, even though we visited each week, but still we did our best to keep them clean. Since they couldn’t go outside often due to their large number, it must’ve been a healing time for both them and us.
Also during summer time, we had to clean all the fans because they were covered with dust and even some of them didn’t work properly.
